Danone Indonesia is starting its further steps with the commitments toward sustainable water resources management efforts. The initiative, known as the Indonesian Water Coalition, is brought along with the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation (Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara), the Indonesian Water Resources Association (AWS Indonesia) Foundation, PT Coca-Cola Indonesia, Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia, PT L'Oréal Indonesia, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, PT Nestlé Indonesia, and PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk). The initiative is built based on a multi-stakeholder partnership for sustainable water resources management through collective action at the Watershed (DAS) level. The Indonesian Water Coalition (Koalisi Air Indonesia) was officially launched on Friday, 29 January 2021, in Jakarta through a virtual agreement with all stakeholders.

Danone Indonesia's involvement in the Indonesia Water Coalition is a manifestation of strong efforts to maintain water circularity, water quality, and quantity and strive to commit toward sustainable business practices in every operational process. "Through collaborating with various stakeholders, we are strongly committed to bringing more positive impacts on sustainable water management and maintaining the balance of nature. To embody Danone's vision, One Planet One Health, we believe that health and the environment are interconnected. We continue to commit and carry out various initiatives to maintain the water cycle by responsibly put nature first," as explained by Karyanto Wibowo, Sustainable Development Director of Danone Indonesia.

Regarding the efforts to manage sustainable water resources, Danone Indonesia, together with the communities and stakeholders, has carried out numerous initiatives since 1990 and generated various achievements that are beneficial for the sustainability of water resources and the environment and the surrounding people in need.

Ratih Loekito, Director of Development and Marketing of the Nusantara Nature Conservation Foundation, mentioned the Indonesian Water Coalition will invite the government, related agencies, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations, community organizations, universities, and research institutions. Collaboration is essential to develop water resources management plans which aligned with the common goals across stakeholders. "We need to involve and work together with all stakeholders to solve water problems in Indonesia. We create sustainable, holistic, and integrated solutions by taking into account the function of ecosystems to support the community's social and economic needs. 

Cooperation with district and provincial governments, the private sector, and the community are necessary to protect and manage water resources in Indonesia in a sustainable manner."

Since 2010, Danone Indonesia has planted more than 2.8 million trees, built more than 1,818 infiltration community wells, constructed more than 62,000 biopore holes, and created 56 rain harvesting facilities. Since 2015 the company has been actively developing biodiversity programs in 20 operational locations, reaching a staggering number of 90.99 hectares. Counting from 2014, Danone has also built 42 water reservoirs. In Desa Pasir Jaya, Bogor Regency, water pond facilities are also used as sources of clean water for the community that part of the Danone Indonesia's WASH Program.  Starting from 2007, Danone Indonesia has collaborated with various related parties to open access to clean water and sanitation (WASH), which have reached more than 330,000 people.

Danone Indonesia's continuous journey in ensuring its sustainability efforts for water resource management does not stop there. Danone Indonesia is also committed to overcoming the impact of decreasing water resources due to climate change. Since 2010, various efforts have been made by Danone Indonesia, such as in the Rejoso Watershed (DAS), East Java. This initiative is aimed to restore the local watershed in Rejoso, which is currently under pressure from deforestation and irresponsible water exploitation. 

Meanwhile, in the Citatih Sub-watershed, Danone Indonesia with Rekonvansi Bumi and the Sukabumi Regency government are jointly pioneering the Cicatih Hijau Lestari Communication Forum (FKCHL). The initiative focuses on the synergy of abundant potentials within the stakeholders to build ecological, social, and economic balance in the local watershed of Citation and Cimandiri. Between 2018 and 2019, Danone has also completed the construction of 2 DAMs in Sukabumi.
