Yogyakarta, December 9, 2017 - Today, the maker of Packaged Drinking Water (AMDK) and Soone-AQUA Light Drinks received the award as the Measurement, Reporting and Verification Actor of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia and submitted directly by the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar to the Director of Sustainable Development Danone Indonesia, Karyanto Wibowo at the Plantation Day Plantation Indonesia (HMPI) in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The award presentation was also witnessed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
The award of KLHK is the second accepted by Danone-AQUA. In 2014, with several companies, Danone-AQUA has received the award as Tree Planting Pioneer and Socializing the Indonesian Tree Growing Movement. And in 2017, Danone-AQUA became one of the companies that received awards from KLHK for its contribution in monitoring online tree-based databases. Symbolically, 40 trees planted by VVIP invites in HMPI 2017 will be fitted with barcodes as the identity of each tree, which is connected to www.databasekonservasiaqua.com, while the remaining 1,000 trees planted are also installed barcodes by reusing the used Gallon AQUA cover. Installed barcodes consist of offline and online. Inside the barcode offline are listed data: Plant type, planting date, planting agent, planting treatment, and plant coordinate points. Whereas in the online barcode, there is a URL that can be connected directly to the wikipedia web according to the type of plant. To read both types of barcodes, can use QR Code Scanner application based on Android.
Karyanto said, "Danone-AQUA thanked KLHK for this award and we appreciate the government that continues to support and encourage the private sector to continue to innovate in conserving the environment Danone-AQUA is committed to continue to innovate in environmental conservation by monitoring tree planting on line. Danone-AQUA believes that environmental preservation is a shared responsibility for the survival of present and future generations. This is also in line with Danone's commitment to "One Planet One Health".
In addition to support from the Government, stakeholder support is a major factor in tree planting success and monitoring by Danone-AQUA. In order for trees that have been planted to continue to grow, it takes the participation of surrounding communities to care for and keep it. In practice, Danone-AQUA works with local and national NGOs to assist people to build awareness of the importance of tree function and how to care for it. In order for the community to voluntarily participate in caring for and safeguarding trees, its economic needs must be met. Therefore, Danone-AQUA facilitates the community to obtain capital such as livestock and tree seedlings to be maintained and developed as a livelihood. In addition to facilitating the community through economic instruments, Danone-AQUA and NGO partners also encourage citizens to form forest management organizations.
Karyanto further explained that in 2014, Danone-AQUA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KLHK for the commitment to plant 1,200,000 trees up to 2021. This MoU was later derived in cooperation with the River Basin Control Center (BPDAS) in 19 locations Aqua in Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi. "We are committed to implementing the MOU, and since 2015, we have begun to apply a 100% tree planting model to grow and complement it with mapping, barcoding and online database-based monitoring. It is effective to determine the need for planting in certain locations and to see its growth. To date there are more than 2.4 million monitored growth trees and monitorable locations, tree species, planting age and point coordinates. "
In addition to tree planting, Danone-AQUA conservation activities include the creation of biopore holes, embung development, and the construction of absorption wells. Currently, Danone-AQUA has made 33,448 biopore holes, 16 embungs for rain catchments and 913 absorption wells. In addition, Danone-AQUA also develops several innovative conservation models including: Foster and Agro Forestry Programs on the Slopes of Mount Arjuno; Model of Conservation of Pancawati in Ciherang, Bogor; and Agro-Forestry in Cidahu, Mekarsari. "Especially for Mekarsari Sukabumi, precisely in the Citatih sub watershed, SWAT is currently being modeled (Soil Water Analysis Tools) to find out how much water has been incorporated into the ecosystem through conservation activities. AQUA is also incorporated in Our Rejoso Movement, which recently.
