PT Tirta Investama-AQUA Factory Klaten received Platinum appreciation in the Water Resources Performance Evaluation Matrix (Pers Persada) Examination Trial. Submission done by Dr. Agus M. Ramdan, Chairman of PAAI (Persatuan Ahli Air Indonesia), to Rama Zakaria, Stakeholder Relation Manager of AQUA Klaten Plant at Graha Sabha Persada, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, September 13, 2017. Mata Persada is a device that aims to measure the extent to which users water is responsible for managing or cultivating water that has been permitted in accordance with applicable legislation.
The AQUA Klaten factory is one of the companies in Central Java Province that gets the opportunity to be assessed. Assessment is done by an independent team which is a combination of multisector such as university, ESDM Service of Central Java Province, Public Works Office of Central Java Province, and Non Governmental Organization. On this occasion, Head of AQUA Klaten Factory, Dudun Wibowo said that the implementation of Mata Persada helps to ensure that all operational companies that run are in conformity with the terms of licensing and environmental management rules as provided in law.
"Not only compliance with regulation, but also how to raise awareness that the management of Water Resources is a shared responsibility and important to be maintained for its sustainability. From there it can be seen that the manufacturing operations, conservation programs and community empowerment initiatives that AQUA Klaten factory has made to answer these demands ", explained Dudun.
At the same time, Teguh Dwi Paryono, Head of Central Java Province ESDM Office asserted that the implementation of Mata Persada will support the balance between development and conservation. "So far, the Faculty of Geology UGM has created several findings, including a landslide monitoring tool. This is a useful finding for the community. I really hope our future can be better in terms of control over water resources "said Teguh.
As the Company responsible for the sustainability of Water Resources, AQUA Group shall monitor the water used for subsequent periodic reporting to the local government, both in quality and quantity in accordance with applicable regulations. From the Conservation Initiative side, AQUA Group has committed in Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) for planting 30,000 trees annually in each factory until 2020. Potential of surface water contamination around springs is also managed by application organic agriculture. The surrounding communities are also ensured access to clean water and running healthy sanitation under the auspices of the WASH (Water Access Sanitation and Hygiene) program.
For Klaten district itself, AQUA Klaten plant since 2007 has planted 91,755 trees spread over 11 villages of the slopes of Mount Merapi. In addition, Klaten AQUA factory has also built the Embung TirtaMulya in Hamlet Pucang RT 04 RW01, Tegalmulyo Village, Kemalang District, Klaten Regency. This embankment has been officially used in February 2017 and is able to accommodate 10,000 cubic meters of raw water for the needs of 1655 inhabitants. As for WASH, AQUA Klaten has reached 6,958 people as beneficiaries in 16 villages and hamlets around the factory. All the program initiatives are implemented based on the results of the study in collaboration with water experts from universities, NGOs and of course the support of beneficiary communities. AQUA Klaten not only cooperates with Gajah Mada University, while study of surface water cycle, springs and groundwater in the slopes of East-Southeast Merapi, French University of Montpellier was also involved in the research.
